Gymnastics Community Weep for Simone Biles’ Training Partner’s Heartbreaking Olympic Fate

The Paris Olympics was not only a celebratory event. It was a turnover of events that happened for some of the teams in participation. For some, it was the biggest disappointment experienced. The French women’s gymnastics team, with their first-ever Olympics participation, were among the ones to suffer the setback. While some, like Simone Biles, added yet another accolade to her long list, a few others could not even open their list.

Dreaming of an Olympic medal, the France WAG team‘s debut in the Paris Olympics did not go as planned. And the result left the French with a major emotional setback. Finishing in the 11th spot, the French team missed out on the chance to enter the finals after disappointing qualifiers. The three losses against the four events left them with a total of 158.797 points. Adding to the loss was the underperformance of their star player, Melanie de Jesus dos Santos. Her loss left them behind in the individual event finals, too.

France’s best gymnast is experiencing turmoil

Melanie de Jesus dos Santos had returned with hopes of overcoming her disappointing Tokyo Olympics loss. Making her Olympic appearance after three years, the France gymnastics team athlete came looking forward to bringing in a change. The gymnast was the 2019 European Champion. But Melanie still entered the event with nervousness. After all, she was performing in front of her home crowd.

The nervousness was, however, proven true. Finishing in the all-round standing at no. 33, Melanie’s hopes saw darkness with her disappointing performance. Her teammate Marine Boyer, on the other hand, finished her performance in 10th position on the balance beam.

What’s your perspective on:

Did the pressure of performing at home crush France’s Olympic dreams, or was it just bad luck?

Have an interesting take?

Talking about her experience post-match via the Olympic Information Service, she states her disappointment. “I’m very sad. I feel like I’ve worked for nothing in the past years. I feel like everything I did the last two, three years did not work out today.”

Shifting to Houston to train with Simone Biles and her coaches, Melanie de Jesus dos Santos’s preparation for the Paris Olympics seems to have felt a bit short. And it left her faced with an emotional setback. This was an unfortunate moment for both Melanie and her fans. But

Fans saddened by unqualified France WAG team

It was quite a devastating experience undergone by the France team and their star player Melanie de Jesus dos Santos in the Paris Olympics. Failing to qualify before the finals, fans, however, have come across sharing their thoughts on how the loss came through disappointments.

For fans, it was quite difficult to accept the loss of the France team in the 2024 Olympics. “Honestly, I was sad about France and Melanie, but I was not surprised, and I truly hate saying that, but I wasn’t. It was such a shame, though. I loved that team and wanted them to have a good Olympics.” These results have put up a negative image for Melanie and team, especially since Tokyo was also a disappointment for her. The shame from all this is especially true in the face of gold medal winning Team USA.

A further insult was the fact that Romania managed to win medals. Stating disappointment, a fan commented, “Romanian qualifying for the team final. France not qualifying for the team final.” With Simone Biles and others representing a strong team from the USA, France’s failure saw the Romanians get the chance to qualify for the gymnastics event final.

Coming as a France team lover, it was quite difficult for the fans to watch their team lose out to qualify in the Paris Olympics gymnastics final event. One user writes, “France’s qf meltdown was really hard to watch. I felt so awful for them.” Feelings of sympathy and empathy came over following the setback.

Looking at a different perspective, a fan, however, comes out in support of not just the team but for their best player, too. “France quals for me. All the build-up, Melanie even moving to the US, just for it to end like that.” Even with the loss, it’s a win for this French fan. Melanie’s underperformance, however, carries the hard work and drive shown by her for the past three years since her disappointing Tokyo Olympics year.

With both the Tokyo Olympics and Paris Olympics going south for me, one can only imagine what’s next for Melanie. One thing for sure is that she will definitely bounce back.
