If you’re anything like me, one of your number-one hobbies is Zillowing. A crispy soda fresh from the fridge, and a few dozen tabs full of dream homes? Truly a perfect Sunday afternoon. I Zillow all over the country and the world, but one spot where I haven’t found any prospective real estate (yet) is Genovia. That’s right, I’m talking about Princess Mia’s kingdom from the Princess Diaries movies, which honestly seems like a dream place to live. A small independent country with a strong woman leader interested in protecting the social good of the people while also rocking a killer wardrobe? Sign me up.
The Zillow market in Genovia is blowing up because the team working on The Princess Diaries 3 is reportedly going “castle-shopping” for the new movie. And since Genovia is a fictional country (news to me), the actual location scouting is happening in the Czech Republic. I’m not sure what happened to the castles they used for the first two Princess Diaries movies, but it has been over two decades since each of them. So, I guess it makes sense that it’s time for a castle upgrade for the upcoming third Princess Diaries movie. Now that Princess Mia is a queen, she deserves some new digs.

In October 2024, Anne Hathaway announced she is returning to the Princess Diaries franchise for a third movie, this time as both a star and producer. “The fairy tale continues,” she wrote in her Instagram post announcement.

We don’t know exactly when Princess Diaries 3 will premiere, but it’s been more than 20 years since the first two films. The Princess Diaries debuted in 2001, and its sequel, The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement, was released in 2004.
In The Princess Diaries 2, Mia discovers that she must get married by the time she turns 21 to become the queen of Genovia. With the big birthday fast approaching, she pursues a romance with Nicholas Devereaux (played by a dreamy young Chris Pine). But in the end, the rules are reevaluated, and Mia can rule the country as a single woman. Feminism wins!
We don’t know the plot of The Princess Diaries 3 yet, but hopefully, Mia’s spent the last 20 years ruling Genovia peacefully. There’s no word yet on whether Chris Pine or Julie Andrews (who played Mia’s grandmother, Queen Clarisse) will return for the third movie, but regardless, we know there will be a gorgeous European castle.
